About Beishen

"I have been running Saturday morning classes at the Boyd Community Hub for close to 2 years. I was teaching for free for more than a year initially before turning it into a paid class last August. There were on average between 12 to 15 people each week when the classes were for free and more than 50% of them were over 60 years old, 30% students and 20% working people. At the moment, there is around 3 to 6 people each week and they are all working people."

Beishen is looking to partner with the Southbank Rotary Club in order to apply for a grant of $3,000 from the City of Melbourne and make this class free (Note below) so that the yoga classes benefit not just the working class but also the older and younger community. The $3,000 grant will pays for her time, insurance and other running costs to teach 40-classes over the period of one year in 2019.

In order to be eligible to apply for a Community Grant with City of Melbourne, the applicant must be a not-for-profit body or be auspiced by one, and was referred by the Boyd Community Hub officer to reach out to the Southbank Rotary Club. This project encourages people to participate in healthy lifestyle and provides an opportunity for people living in Southbank to get out of their towers making social interaction with others.
